Wiggly Worms!

Worms are wiggling wonders!
Last week we read books about earthworms. During science, we looked closely at red wigglers. Red wigglers are one kind of earthworm. We worked hard to notice some characteristics of the red worms. We saw the segments on their bodies, and we decided that they weren't as big as the worms we find outside after a rainy day.  This week we'll get to compare the red wigglers to some night crawlers. That should make for some crazy critter fun!

We had great fun during learning centers last week too!

We got to "write the hallway!" We went quietly into the hallway to find tricky math problems to solve! It was fun work, and the kids enjoyed the hallway learning environment!

We played a game called "Tower Power!" We had to read words on the bottom of cups. If we could read the word, we got to use the cup to build a tower. The most fun part was when one partner got a "crash" cup! Then the towers came tumbling down and we got to start over! Ms. Molloy surprised us with a can filled with really tricky words to read. BUT.... we tricked her when we read through them easy as pie!

We also got to make crazy emus after reading the books "Edward the Emu" and "Edwina the Emu." Those pictures will follow!

This week brings with it MAY 1st!!! WOW! That means our ABC Countdown will be kicking off on Wednesday. Here's how you can help your kindergartner participate:

Wednesday = A for All American Day!
You guessed it... wear red, white & blue!

Thursday = B for Bubbles & Buddies!
We'll have fun blowing bubbles and reading books with buddies!

Friday = C for Career Day!
Dress for the job you'd like to have one day! Don't have clothes to match?
No worries... we'll be CREATIVE too!!

Watch for the ABC Countdown calendar to come home on Tuesday. Don't forget to mark your calendars to remind you that there is no school for Kindergartners on Friday, May 17th.  It's already Round Up time for next year's kindergartners! WOW!

Stay tuned and come back soon to find out more about our kindergarten fun!

What have we been up to?

Greetings!
It's been weeks since spring break and no update! Wondering what we've been up to?
Here's some photos to give you an idea!

We were in charge of the big bulletin board at school. We made lions that were "roaring" about why Russell School is the best school!
"I love Russell School because the
kids are nice."

"The teachers help us learn."
"We have the best teachers"

We did lots of science experiments to help us think about properties of matter!
We learned about solids, liquids and gases.

We worked as teams to create posters about different versions of "The Three Little Pigs."
Ms. Molloy loved watching the conversation, collaboration and compromising!

We got to hang out with our favorite 5th graders... our big buddies! They helped us use maps to find hidden treasures on the playground!

Ms. Molloy's sister got a new black lab puppy. His name is Bear. He loves his big brother Bogie!
Bear has been a great inspiration to us as we learn about poetry! Here's our first team masterpiece!
Aren't we good??

The 5th graders spent a lot of time learning about life in the Colonial Times. Then, they spent a morning teaching all of the other grades some things that they learned. We got to do an activity outside. First we hunted for some food and supplies to take on the Mayflower...

Then we raced across the "ocean" using teamwork and some "boats!"

And now on to the really exciting news!! The eggs will be at school and in the incubator next week!
We did a discovery project to help us think about the parts of an egg, and why those parts are important when baby chicks grow in a fertilized egg. It was ooey and gooey and messy and FUN!

During the next few weeks, we'll become experts about oviparous animals. We'll be studying some critters up close and personal while we wait for our eggs to hatch. There will be lots to share, so stay tuned to the blog!

**Here's a little heads up for your calendar...
On Friday, May 17th, there will be no school for Kindergartners.
We will be celebrating "Round Up" with next years Kinders!
