My Oh My! Time Flies By!

Greetings!
Again, I'm slow on the blogging duties! Is it too late to make it a New Year's Resolution?

I'll catch you up on our January happenings! You've probably heard... but we found a rather large egg earlier this month! We thought for a long time about what we might find inside. After we drew pictures of our original guesses, I gave the kids three clues. That made our thinking change!

An example of our predictions!

The Egg!

We kept our egg warm... and crazy enough, one afternoon we heard some strange sounds coming from it! Low and behold... look what we found when we came back from recess! (I missed the pictures of the kindergarten faces, but those were pretty cool too!)

Since we figured out that we'd be learning about dinosaurs and fossils, we took some time to think about what we already know, as well as write down some wonderings. Scientists often learn new things about dinosaurs, and often have to change their thinking when they have new discoveries. We talked about the idea of misconceptions. A misconception doesn't mean you were wrong, it just means that your thinking had to change. As we've been learning, we've been adding to our "new learning" on the chart.

We've been hard at work with different learning centers!
Hatch the dino egg... say the word into the phone and write it down!
Here's some pictures of what we've been up to:

We've been sounding out lots of words! We are turning into readers!

Read a word and find a matching picture!

Teen numbers games! 10 and 8 make 18!

And best of all.... the paleontology station! Every paleontologist needs some important tools! Goggles for eye safety! A pick and a brush to help dig up the bones and clean them off! This week we got to use our imaginations. These chocolate chip cookies gave us great practice with the careful work paleontologists do when digging up bones.

Can you tell that we are having a great time??
Stay tuned for more paleontologists later this week!

I think we are almost up to speed! These kids are learning a lot each day! We are working hard on our Russell Bear Behaviors... Be Respectful! Be Responsible! Be Safe! Be a Learner!

By the way... we are officially half way through our kindergarten year. Unbelievable! Our 100th day is quickly approaching! Oh what fun we will have with our next 90 days!
